FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

What does the therapist do?

Lots of careful listening on comfy chairs. We know how nerve-racking all this can be. We won’t judge you, or criticise you. We will be friendly, warm and calming and have a genuine interest in your story.

In the first session we will explain how it all works, we will endeavour to gain your trust and respect, and in following sessions we may start to form a mutually agreed plan of action to get you on the road to healing. For other clients, discussing the past is necessary for healing to occur. It’s different for every person.

Will the Therapist tell anyone about my problems?

No, everything we talk about is confidential. We will not discuss your problem with anyone else outside the service.

Every good counsellor has a supervisor to discuss all the best possible options for clients (similar to a Doctor discussing medical notes with a specialist) but the client’s identity is never revealed during talks.

Does my problem have to be serious to see a therapist?

No, please don’t wait till the problem gets worse. If you feel stressed, depressed, anxious, or just not ‘yourself’ emotionally, we can help.

Often lots of smaller less serious problems can cause massive feelings of stress. We can help you logically tackle these and find direction out of confusion.

How long will it be before I see results?

Bearing in mind that each person is unique with varying issues, we aim to be effective immediately, however our approach will be dependent on you and what you want from therapy. You may want to talk about the past, or you may just want to learn coping skills.

We mold to you’re needs and requirements to achieve your aims and goals.

Can I bring a friend to the session

Normally it’s best not to, but if it’s the only way you can possibly seek help, then we would accommodate it on the first session to allow you to feel at ease.

I'm worried about someone else, what shall I do?

You’re no doubt worried about how to approach the subject with them, not wanting to offend or upset them. The best thing you can do is talk to them, they may not know what is happening to them, and you could be the one to show them a way out of the despair.

The fact that you care and support this person will be apparent when you show an interest. Remember, without compassion and empathy, mental illness can be a lonely road. Please contact us for some tips, help and guidance on how to tactfully approach the subject.
